The flag deserves respect even when no one is looking

Sipping early morning coffee on the porch in my favorite chair, I watch tumbling surf announce a windy day ahead. White foam cascades head over heels, sending spray to vanish in thin air. The American flag waves just below me in the dunes between the porch and the beach. June 7, 2012 has dawned, and I’m still thinking back to last night’s programs on the round-the-clock Military Channel, a novelty we do not have at home.

Sydney Margaret Holbert

Sydney Margaret Holbert received two significant honors in the University of Mississippi’s annual Honors Convocation held earlier this spring. A Madison resident, she is completing work on her doctorate in elementary education. She is the only student to be recognized in two schools of education. She was recognized as Outstanding Doctoral Student in Elementary Education and also received the Achievement Award in Curriculum and Instruction. Holbert is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Holbert.
