Madison supervisors budget increase option open for 2014

MADISON COUNTY supervisors say they would still consider possible budget increases for departments in the coming fiscal year, though they voted unanimously last week to ask department heads not to request more money.

“If they have to have an increase, they’ve got to justify it,” said District 4 Supervisor Karl Banks, who made the motion to ask for no increases.

FRF and LeFleur East join forces to beautify N'side Drive intersection

New plantings and signage are on tap for one of the Northside’s major intersections, thanks to the efforts of two area nonprofit groups.

The LeFleur East Foundation and Fondren Renaissance Foundation (FRF) are planning to beautify the Northside Drive and I-55 intersections, and are now in the permitting phase to get their plans approved.

Because the intersections are located along interstate right-of-way, work must be signed off on by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).

The Magnolia State enjoys success in college baseball

We Mississippians often consider ourselves as a football state and for good reason. Friday nights and Saturday afternoons and nights are special. Our state has produced far more than its share of the greatest football players in the history of the sport.

But you could make a case - and I will - that baseball has made a Magnolia State case for itself in recent years. In particular, Mississippi’s college baseball teams have far surpassed their football counterparts’ success rate in recent seasons.
