DESPITE A RISING number of criminal youth cases and the lack of a juvenile detention center in Madison County, one ray of hope - however thin - is shining on the juvenile justice system.
For fiscal year 2015, beginning July 1, the Mississippi Legislature has allocated about $1.35 million to juvenile drug courts.
And the state Drug Court Advisory Committee might allocate more.
The 11-member committee manages a fund made up of $10 assessments on criminal convictions, mostly traffic tickets. That fund is one of the sources for drug courts.
