When I started Ole Miss in 1952 and pledged to Phi Delta Theta fraternity, I could not have imagined how many alter names and nicknames I would soon encounter. It seems that any fragility or outstanding feature or personality trait that one possessed would soon earn a nickname. If you didn’t have an alter name or one other than your formal one, you would soon obtain one.
