WORK COULD get under way as early as late May on the Fortification Street Improvement Project.
At its regular meeting last week, the Jackson City Council approved awarding an $8.9 million contract to Hemphill Construction Company for the work.
Because federal and state funds are being used for the project, the contract must now be signed off on by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).
Director of Communications Chris Mims expects the state transportation commission to concur with the contract at its first meeting in May.
