Legislators voted for flood reform

Although every member of Mississippi’s Washington delegation voted in favor of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act, none of the state’s congressional leaders foresaw flood insurance premiums skyrocketing.
Biggert-Waters was passed in 2012 to shore up the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The law eliminates federal subsidies for homeowners, resulting in significantly increased flood insurance rates for residents living in flood plains.
