Madison County experiences growth in assessed values

AROUND THIS TIME last year, Madison County Tax Assessor Gerald Barber said the county would be fortunate to grow just one percent in total assessed value in the coming year.

He was wrong, and he’s happy about it. The county’s assessed value grew by three percent. In this economy, that’s good news.

“Three percent is awesome, considering some of my brothers and sisters in surrounding counties are having negative growth,” Barber told the board of supervisors when he presented the 2012 tax rolls last week.
