State begins mechanics of implementing tax increase
Officials with the Mississippi Department of Revenue (DOR) are unsure how they’ll let businesses know what items are exempt and not exempt from Jackson’s new one-cent tax.
In January, voters in the capital city overwhelmingly threw their support behind a temporary one-percent sales tax. The tax will mean an additional one-percent levy will be added to certain transactions within the city limits. Jackson officials hope to have the tax in place by March.
