When it rains, Randy Vessell gets out the sandbags.
Vessell’s home on St. Mary Street has flooded four times since December 2010.
“I’ve had sandbags out during the last rain events to minimize it, but some water still gets in,” he said.
Flooding has become a problem in Belhaven in recent years. In June and July, homes were flooded when heavy storms caused Belhaven Creek to back up.
The flooding has affected homes and cars on St. Mary, St. Ann, Ivy and Laurel streets, as well as the streets themselves.
