Whitwell pushing weekly pickups to encourage more citizens to begin recycling
Thirty-five percent of Jackson households and businesses recycle.
Ward One Councilman Quentin Whitwell believes that number would go up if the city increased its curbside recycling pickup to once a week.
Currently, the city pays $5.4 million a year for Waste Management, the city’s solid waste contractor, to pick up recycling every other week.
Jackson has more than 12,000 customers that receive curbside waste pickup.
