Immigration reform warrants proceeding cautiously

The Mississippi Senate did the sensible thing by not falling into the same trap as some other Southern states that passed immigration reform only to rue it later.
It was a bipartisan effort to derail an initiative on which Gov. Phil Bryant and Republican House members had heavily pandered.
Although Democratic Sen. Hob Bryan gets credit for exercising the “pocket veto” by letting the House bill die in his committee without a vote, Republican Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves was a collaborator in applying the brakes. He assigned the bill to Bryan’s committee, knowing it would most likely die there.
