AFTER SPIKES in property crimes early last year and last summer, Jackson police ended 2011 on a positive note, with crime being down 6.2 percent in Precinct Four and 5.9 percent citywide.
Precinct Four is now leading the city in crime reduction, a year after it had the highest increase in crime among all four major precincts.
“We’re almost 10 percent down, where I wanted to be a year after I took over,” said Precinct Four Cmdr. Wendell Watts. Watts credits the reduction to a new district system put in place by the department.
