
At our house it’s a dog-eat-dog, dog-eat-cat world, and this was my dog’s territory. June Cleaver’s bark sounded like a gorilla belching over a public address system. In full, fighting stance, she stood quivering and peeping through the glass door that leads from our bedroom to the den. The Cleave challenged the invading enemy: Comet, a little Jack Russell terrier and part pit bull, and Mowgli, our grandson Brent’s adopted alley cat.
