FAILING TO show up for jury duty in Hinds or Madison counties could net fines and jail time.
But more than likely it won’t.
Hundreds of people fail to make it for jury qualifications each week. And although state law allows judges to punish those who shirk their civic duty, skipping out on jury service is rarely punished.
Circuit Judge Bill Gowan finds it “appalling” that so many people summoned for jury duty in Hinds County fail to show up.
