Mr. and Mrs. John Carlisle Batte III announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Leighton Batte, to Clifton Charles Mosteller, son of Dr. and Mrs. Matthew Wooley Mosteller of Mobile.

Miss Batte is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Wayne Plants of Oxford, Mr. and Mrs. John Carlisle Batte Jr. and the late Elizabeth Jones Batte of Jackson. Mosteller is the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Jack Hyman, Dr. John H. Mosteller, and the late Mrs. Janet Young Mosteller, all of Mobile.

After graduating from Jackson Academy, the bride-elect attended the University of Mississippi where she graduated in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

While at Ole Miss, she was a member of Chi Omega fraternity and an award winning member of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Actively involved in the Oxford community, Miss Batte volunteered for the American Heart Association, Azalea Gardens Nursing Home, Habitat for Humanity, and LEAP Frog tutoring program.

Upon graduation, she moved to Birmingham, where she was associated with Cottage Living magazine.

The prospective bridegroom is a 2000 graduate of UMS-Wright in Mobile, and attended the University of Mississippi where he was graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2004.

While at Ole Miss, he was a member of the Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, was an Associated Student Body senator, Governmental and Judiciary Operations Committee member, attended the Trent Lott Leadership Institute for College Students, was on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, admitted to the National Dean’s list, Golden Key National Honor Society, and the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honorary.

Mosteller attends the University of Alabama School of Law, where he is a Juris Doctor candidate for May 2007.

The couple will exchange vows the evening of May 19 at First Presbyterian Church in Oxford.

They will make their home in Mobile, where she is associated with MDi Media Group and he will be an associate with the law firm of Bowron, Latta, and Wasden.
