Stone, Blades exchange vows in First Presbyterian ceremony

A service of worship celebrating the marriage of Emily Boyer Stone and Joshua Oliver Blades was held at recently at First Presbyterian Church.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Orlando Stone Jr. of Flowood. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Athel Blades III of Sylacauga, Ala.

Dr. J. Ligon Duncan III officiated the double-ring ceremony. Nuptial music was presented by Dr. William Wymond, organist; Tanja and Darka Miric, classical guitars; and Anna Walden Johnson, cousin of the bride, vocalist.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of ivory satin and re-embroidered lace. Her fitted strapless bodice featured an overlay of Alencon lace embellished with crystal and pearl beading. Her princess seamed skirt flowed into a cathedral-length train and was finished with a scalloped border of beaded lace. The bride wore a strand of pearls and pearl and diamond earrings, which were gifts from the bridegroom. She also wore a cathedral-length veil of silk illusion, belonging to her cousins. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of ivory roses, stephanotis, miniature calla lilies and white tulips with an embroidered handkerchief from her great-grandmother.

Attending the bride as maids of honor were her sisters, Caroline Puckett Stone and Sarah Jennings Stone. Bridesmaids were Elisha Jewell Blades, sister of the bridegroom, and Sara Hart Rosenblatt. Each wore a taupe satin gown with a wide champagne satin sash and carried a mixed bouquet of roses, hydrangeas, tulips and lilies in spring colors. Charlotte Boyer Meyer, cousin of the bride, was flower girl.

Honorary bridesmaids were Katherine Jennings Precht and Katherine Jane Walden, cousins of the bride, Emmylou Rhe Branscome, Martha Lynn Cooper, Courtney Lauren Defoe, Courtnay Sandiage Greer, Elizabeth Ivy McCraw, Ann Shivers McNair, Laurel Diana Miller, and Lauren Ashley Studdard. They also carried mixed bouquets in spring colors.

The father of the bridegroom was best man. Groomsmen were Robert Clymer Hendrickson IV, William Woodrow Jones III and Travis Michael Wolfe. Ushers were Daniel Coleman, Robin Elliott Cooper, James Jay Howell, James Pollard Kent, Nathan Alexander Moore and Dustin Lynn Perrin.

Program and registry attendants were Katherine Walters Brink, Mary Jane Davis, Emily Grace Penn and Anna Laura Young.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at the Fairview Inn. Danielle Temple provided bagpipe music. Inside the Fairview, guests enjoyed the piano music of Dr. James Schlater.

On the eve of the wedding, the bridegroom’s parents honored the couple with a rehearsal dinner at River Hills Club. Earlier in the day, the father of the bride hosted a morning of skeet shooting for the bridegroom and his wedding party, while the bride and her wedding party attended a bridesmaids’ luncheon, given by her aunts, at the Old Capitol Inn.

Following a wedding trip to Savannah, the couple made their home in Starkville, before moving to Glasgow, Scotland, where the bridegroom has begun a year of graduate study.
