Despite drops in most areas, including another week with no business burglaries, Precinct Four Cmdr. Kenneth Goodrum said the Northside did experience an increase in armed robberies.
At the most recent Community Oriented Policing (COPS) meeting, Goodrum had a message for those crooks. “We know who they are and we’re looking for them,” he said to the neighborhood leaders in attendance. “It will only be a matter of time before they’re behind bars.”
Among the crimes officers now have on their radar screens, on February 21, a taxicab driver and his passenger were robbed in the 3700 block of Northview Drive.
Precinct Four Officer Robby Huff said the cab was parked at the address when a silver Toyota with three unidentified black males inside pulled up beside them. One of the men pulled a handgun and demanded the driver’s and the passenger’s money and drove away from the scene.
The incident, Huff said, occurred at 2:55 in the morning and is still under investigation.
Two days later, on February 23, another man was robbed in the 500 block of Robinhood Road when he was looking to buy a car. The complainant met the suspect at the suspects’ girlfriends’ house at midnight to look at a vehicle that he supposedly had for sale.
Huff said the victim had the money to purchase the car. While looking at the car, the suspect, a black male, allegedly pulled a gun and robbed him. The victim escaped on foot and ran to a service station at the corner of Robinhood and North State Street, where he called police.
ALSO ON FEBRUARY 23, a woman was robbed in her home in the 900 block of Chastain Drive. The woman was in her home when an unknown black male kicked down the complainant’s back door and came inside. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 that night.
Armed with a handgun, the suspect made her take her baby upstairs and lay on the floor. She reported that he kept asking if anyone else was in the house.
With no one else at home, he took her purse and left the scene. No one was injured in the robbery and the case is still under investigation.
