AFTER A RECENT SPIKE IN armed robberies on the Northside, Jackson police have apparently taken control of the problem.
After seeing high numbers earlier this month, police reported only three armed robberies in the past week.
The first of those occurred at the Captain D’s restaurant at 5365 I-55 N. On July 22, Precinct Four Officer Robby Huff said three black males entered the store at approximately 10:20 that night.
“One of the suspects placed a handgun to the clerk’s head and said, 組ive it up,’”Huff said. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene on foot.
Four employees were in the North Jackson fast food restaurant at the time of the robbery. No one was injured in the incident.
On July 25, a woman was robbed at the LaQuinta Inn at 616 Briarwood Dr. At approximately 8:45 that night, a woman was approached by an unknown black male armed with a handgun.
Huff said the suspect brandished the weapon and stole the woman’s purse. The suspect, though, might not get off scott free.
Videotape was recovered at the crime scene and now is being investigated by the department’s robbery-homicide division.
Another armed robbery occurred at the Outback Steakhouse at 6030 I-55 N. Huff said a woman and her friend were walking out of the restaurant when two black males drove up beside them in a gray Pontiac. “The driver jumped out, pulled out an unknown caliber handgun and took their purses,” he said. “He got in the car and drove away.”
The women weren’t injured in the incident, which is also still under investigation.
Police responded to shots fired at one Northside business on July 26. Huff said police arrived at the Kangaroo Express gas station at 1302 N. State St., to find that a complainant had been shot.
The man, identified as Jermaine Eubanks, was taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment to his right leg. Huff said police reports were sketchy, but said Eubanks was shot by a black male suspect and surveillance video was collected at the scene.
