Tweetie White of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Jack H. Lefler II of Loudon, Tenn., announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura Clarkson Lefler, to John Thomas Herzog, son of Drs. Angela and Jim Herzog of Jackson.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mary Clarkson and the late Rev. John Clarkson of Columbia, S.C., and the late Josephine Lefler and Jack H. Lefler Sr. of Loudon. The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Elizabeth O’Briant and the late Thomas O’Briant of Senatobia, and Lois Herzog and the late Laverne Herzog of Madison, formerly of Mason City, Iowa.
Miss Lefler was graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee in 2001 where she was the top graduate in the College of Communications. She is press secretary to U.S. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee.
Herzog is a 2000 graduate of Jackson Preparatory School and was graduated cum laude from the University of Mississippi in 2004. After serving two years in the White House for President George W. Bush, he now works as a lobbyist for GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceuticals in Washington, D.C.
The couple met in Washington while working for U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee.
They will exchange vows July 11 at St. John’s Church, Lafayette Square, in Washington, with a reception to follow at the Decatur House. The Rev. Dr. Luis León will officiate.
