Mr. and Mrs. Julius Martin Jr. announce the engagement of their daughter, Jasmine Michelle Martin, to Robert James Smith III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert James Smith Jr.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Willie J. Bowman and the late Dr. S.L. Bowman of Jackson, and Mrs. Willie T. Martin and the late Julious Martin Sr. of Terry.

Miss Martin is a 2000 honor graduate of Callaway High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences/pre-physical therapy with a minor in clinical exercise physiology from Mississippi State University in 2004. At State, she was initiated as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and Beta Beta Beta Biological Society. She was elected to the National Dean’s List and the Chancellor’s List. Miss Martin is a 2009 graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a doctor of physical therapy.

The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert James Smith Sr. of Vicksburg, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Terrell of Pearl. Smith was graduated with honors from Callaway High School in 1999. He received a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology with a concentration in computer technology from Jackson State University in 2004. At Jackson State, he was a member of the JSU Sonic Boom of the South.

The couple will exchange vows August 1 at Black’s Chapel M.B. Church in Jackson.
