Madison county’s North Old Canton Road project should be under way. However, there have been minor expense additions to ensure the project runs smoothly.
State Aid Engineer for Madison County Jim Hust recently spoke with the board of supervisors about the project’s progress.
“We held a conference to start the project,” Hust said. “The contractor (Dickerson and Bowen Inc.) is requesting subcontracts.”
The fist subcontract is for Road-Pro Safety Inc. for approximately $12,000, which allows the company to implement warning signs and traffic maintenance throughout the duration of the project.
The second is a subcontract with Delta Construction Inc. for a cost of approximately $19,300.
“Typically, contractors will sub out portions of work to subcontractors,” Hust said. “In this case, it was milling.”
The entire scope of the N. Old Canton Road project is a maintenance overlay from Yandell Road, near the Deerfield subdivision, south to Daves Brown Road — 1.9 miles.
The project will cost approximately $500,000.
“The Office of State Aid is a state agency that gets part of the gas tax and distributes it to each of the counties. Madison County is using that for North Old Canton Road.”
Dickerson and Bowen Inc., the construction company awarded the project bid, was scheduled to begin work October 2. The project is scheduled to take 45 days.
