Township Jazz Fest Saturday, April 20

Northsiders might want to take a break from dyeing eggs, buying candy and making baskets to take in the Township Jazz Festival.

The event is Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the Township in Ridgeland and will feature some of the top names in jazz.

“We have a truly world-class offering … the best in jazz,” said Raphael Semmes, one of the event’s founders and a mainstay in the local music scene.

This year’s lineup includes the Grammy Award-winning Rebirth Brass Band, Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra and Astral Project, the group known as New Orleans’ “greatest contemporary jazz band.”

Locals are also participating, including the Ridgeland High School Jazz Band, Fusion Coffeehouse All-Stars and the Jackson State University Jazz Professors.

The event is free to the public, with opening remarks slated for 11:30 a.m.
