The Jackson City Council has scheduled a special meeting on Tuesday, May 4 to address the topic of crime in the city.
The meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. at New Horizon International, 1770 Ellis Ave. The meeting has been moved from City Hall to New Horizon because it can accommodate more people.
The agenda includes discussion of resources available from the federal government, state of Mississippi and Hinds County. The agenda also lists discussion about opportunities with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to supplement additional police officers, the status of grants from the Department of Justice and how the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics can help.
Bishop Ronnie Crudup Sr., Pastor Dewayne K. Pickett and other metro area clergy members will also speak about resources available to help address crime.
The church sanctuary can hold about 3,000 people but that number is reduced because of COVID-19. Anyone who attends the meeting will need to wear a facial covering.
New Horizon plans to stream the meeting over Facebook.
