The opening of the Amazon fulfillment center located in the Madison County Megasite has been delayed. Originally, the center was scheduled to bring in up to 1,800 employees during the holiday season.
Kathleen Makupson, operations manager at Amazon, said the launch of the fulfillment center has been pushed back to January, which will also push back job hirings. “Everything is the same except we are pushed back until the middle of January,” Makupson said.
No reason was given for the delay from Amazon. In the meantime, job candidates can still login to the Amazon job website and apply for available jobs. However, because of the delay, most hourly jobs are still unavailable until the opening gets closer, and salary positions are the only jobs applicants are able to apply for.
“We are still hiring,” Makupson said. “We have been interviewing for hourly lead operation positions, but they won’t start until next year.”
