The city of Jackson has begun pre-installation inspections of all the properties that the water department serves.
Employees of UMS, the business conducting the inspections, are going door-to-door in Jackson conducting an inventory of water meters and service lines. Residents will not be disturbed.
UMS employees can be identified by a badge that has the UMS and city of Jackson logos.
City of Jackson residents who do not have a current water account with the city or live in a property that lacks a water meter present need to establish service, said Carla Dazet, deputy director of public works.
“We will only be restoring water after meters are set to those locations that have an established account,” she said. “This is one of the many actions we are taking to further our commitment to correcting the issues with the billing system.”
Installation of new meters is scheduled to begin in October.
