Jackson's St. Dominic's Hospital has opened its new emergency room, tripling its annual patient capacity from 20,000 to 60,000 patients. The $38 million expansion was funded in part with $11 million in private donations.
The parking area will have room for up to 12 ambulances, a four-fold increase. The new emergency will have 24 beds now and 40 total within a year. The waiting area is greatly expanded.
A state-of-the-art CT scanning device will be on-site for instant stroke evaluation. Having the scanner onsite will eliminate a 100-yard walk, saving brain cells. Stroke victims can lose eight million brain cells a minute. See the slide show below for more information
