Book fiasco

After allowing the books at the Charles Tisdale Library to rot, it now appears that the Jackson-Hinds Library System will let the city of Jackson foot the bill for disposing of them.

Last month, the Jackson-Hinds board of trustees voted to abandon its interests in the E. Northside Drive facility, effective September 30.

Hole in One

The Sanderson Farms Championship is under way, and even for the casual golf fan, the tournament has a lot to offer.

The tournament runs through September 22 at the Country Club of Jackson and features some of the biggest names in professional golf.

Dog Days of Summer

Short as the walk that ends the night                 

“You’re a good girl. Now behave yourself.” 

I tighten the leash, stop a moment to catch my breath, bend over and pet the dog.  “We should be able to finish our walk, then I have some things to take care of before I, ‘make it to the church on time,’” I hum.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.




Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers.

Zoo Closer to New Management

Talks could wrap up in a matter of days and a new zoo management team could be in place next month.

Since January, the Lumumba administration has been in talks with the ZoOcenarium group, an international firm they’re backing to take over leadership of the Jackson Zoological Park.

Justyn Schelver

Reunion’s director of tennis, was recently recognized for his work in organizing and directing the 2018 USTA Mississippi Junior Tournament of the year.  The event utilizes facilities across the metro area including: Reunion Golf and Country Club, Ridgeland Tennis Center, Parham Bridges Tennis Center, Reservoir YMCA and The Club at the Township.
