Freeland Harris Magruder, Jr. 89, passed away peacefully at Hospice Ministries on July 10, 2019, sixteen days shy of his 90th birthday. He was born on July 26, 1929 in Memphis, TN, the son of Freeland Harris Magruder, Sr., and Adele Critz Magruder.

Lane Spell Rosson, 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at home in Ridgeland, MS, surrounded by friends and family including her son, Bert Rosson Jr., her sister, Suzanne Case of McComb and niece Rebecca Case Lawler of New Orleans.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.




Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers.

Magical moments with a first doe

I can’t recall the exact date, but somewhere around 20 plus years ago the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks created several special youth seasons for those younger than 16 years of age. Don’t hold me to it, but I believe a two day waterfowl season was the first in a series for the kids.


run for the Brain

Planning is underway for the third annual Brawn and Bubbles Run for the Brain Thursday, May 3 at 6 p.m. Participants may join The MIND Center and the Reservoir Fire Department of Rankin County for this sunset run along the shoreline of the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

Caroline Hill (left) and Emory Laseter from Jackson Academy won the MAISS AAAA number one Doubles Championships. Hill was also named to the Clarion Ledger’s 2018 All-State Girls Tennis Team as part of the Best of #MSPREPS.

Amanda Fontaine presented the program “Get Your ‘ASK’ In Gear” to the Rotary Club of Jackson by presenting facts regarding the history of Rotary’s membership.


Zoo Audit Planned

Jackson is another step closer to bringing on a new zoo manager, but first it wants to get a handle on the park’s finances.

Last week, the city council approved bringing on an accounting firm to conduct a forensic audit of the Jackson Zoological Park’s finances.
