Construction continues despite weather delays on St. Dominic’s project

A major expansion at St. Dominic Hospital continues to move forward, despite the area’s unusually wet weather.

Construction is about one-fourth complete on a project that will essentially double the size of the hospital’s emergency department. The project is expected to wrap up late in the summer of 2021.

Lane Spell Rosson, 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at home in Ridgeland, MS, surrounded by friends and family including her son, Bert Rosson Jr., her sister, Suzanne Case of McComb and niece Rebecca Case Lawler of New Orleans.

Residents hopes to keep bridges closed dashed with work to get under way soon

All good things must come to an end, and for residents in some Northside neighborhoods, the quiet streets associated with temporary bridge closures will soon be a distant memory.

Contractors are expected to begin work on the Cavalier Drive replacement project sometime in October.


Willie Alan Weeks

Willie Alan Weeks was born November 24, 1966 on Thanksgiving Day to Adell Newsom and Willie Ephraim Weeks of Lucedale, Mississippi. He was healed and restored on September 19, 2019. After graduating George County High School, he began studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg where he earned a degree in Marketing.

Airport land annexation hearing scheduled Jan. 24; two cities want property

The first scheduled hearing in the annexation case involving the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport is slated for January 24.

Two cities, Flowood and Pearl, are attempting to annex land surrounding Jackson-Evers, in what city of Jackson officials call a “tax grab.”

Ridgeland’s farmers’ market slated to end in December extended because of success

The city of Ridgeland’s weekly farmers’ market, True Local Market, has been extended into the new year.

True Local Market began in October and was expected to run through the end of December 2018. However, due to the success of the market, it will continue.



RIDGELAND MUNICIPAL COURT TO OFFER FEE WAIVER PROGRAM FOR OUTSTANDING ARREST WARRANTS ON CONTEMPT OF COURT

The Ridgeland Police Department in conjunction with Ridgeland Municipal Court will offer a Fee Waiver Program for individuals with arrest warrants for Contempt of Court (Failure to Appear). This period will begin Tuesday, February 19th and end Friday, March 1st, 2019.

Metro senators join forces to back special funding districts

The fight for community improvement districts (CIDs) began anew this week, with the start of the 2019 legislative session.



Invitational

JA to host area show choirs. Jackson Academy will host its 7th annual Show Choir Invitational Friday, February 1 beginning at 5 p.m. and Saturday, February 2 beginning at 10 a.m. Local schools will perform including Jackson Prep and Madison Central. The invitational will also feature Jackson Academy’s show choirs in exhibition performances.

Shoreline Habitat

To promote shoreline habitat and stabilize the bank, a planting project will soon be underway. Shoreline areas along the Ross Barnett Reservoir, such as the Reservoir Overlook, were recently lined with rip rap rock to repair eroded slopes.


Magical moments with a first doe

I can’t recall the exact date, but somewhere around 20 plus years ago the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks created several special youth seasons for those younger than 16 years of age. Don’t hold me to it, but I believe a two day waterfowl season was the first in a series for the kids.

Greg Shows has joined Citizens National Bank as a mortgage lender for the metro Jackson area. He has more than 10 years of experience in residential and agricultural lending from the farm credit system, residential mortgage brokering and community bank lending.



Before you begin

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School students are challenged every year to read 50 books the summer before starting first grade. Each year, on the first week of school, the students who successfully completed the challenge are awarded a certificate and a book of their own.
