Northside Drive repaving to begin

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Monday, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba announced that repaving is expected to begin on Northside Drive between State Street and I-55/Frontage Road.  The $2.4 million project has been made possible through the 1% Sales Tax Commission and funding made available to the Mississippi Department of Transportation by the Federal Highway

Waymond Lee Rone died August 19, 2019 in Jackson, Mississippi. Just two weeks earlier he had been enjoying the salt air and sea breezes in his garden at Perdido Key, Florida. Many called him Dr. Rone, Wayne, and Daddy, but his grandchildren called him Poppy.

Oscar Edward Wall, Jr

Ed Wall passed away July 28  in Oxford. After living in Jackson for 47 years, he and his wife, Nell, relocated to Oxford in 2017 to be near family.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held Monday, August 5, at Northminster Baptist Church in Jackson.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon and the service at 2:00 p.m.

First Tennessee Bank awarded bond bid for Ridgeland City Center

The city of Ridgeland has received bids for the construction of the new city center, following the selection of a bank for the issuance of nearly $20 million in bonds.

The Ridgeland board of aldermen awarded the bond issue to First Tennessee Bank, as they had the lowest interest rate at 2.689669 percent.

JA student killed in car crash, one day before she was to graduate

A vigil will be held tonight for the Jackson Academy (JA) student killed in a car crash today.

Frances Anne Fortner was driving along Ridgewood Road around 1:30 p.m., when she hit a manhole cover and her car flipped, according to Precinct Four Cmdr. Keith Freeman.

The vigil will be at 7 p.m., on the school's campus.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.
