Madison-Ridgeland Academy’s students find themselves nearly half-way through the semester and excelling in more ways than one. Friendships, studies, and extracurricular activities are just a few areas where these girls find themselves thriving.

Book fiasco

After allowing the books at the Charles Tisdale Library to rot, it now appears that the Jackson-Hinds Library System will let the city of Jackson foot the bill for disposing of them.

Last month, the Jackson-Hinds board of trustees voted to abandon its interests in the E. Northside Drive facility, effective September 30.



World Peace

Dog Days of Summer

Short as the walk that ends the night                 

“You’re a good girl. Now behave yourself.” 

I tighten the leash, stop a moment to catch my breath, bend over and pet the dog.  “We should be able to finish our walk, then I have some things to take care of before I, ‘make it to the church on time,’” I hum.



Richard Ward Dortch

Richard Ward Dortch, lifelong resident of Jackson, Mississippi, died peacefully on September 18, 2019 following a brief illness. Because of his tall stature and playful nature, younger generations called him “Big Richard,” and even younger ones shortened the nickname to simply “Big.” He was 83.

Common sense

Now-retired Madison County Circuit Judge William Chapman, before his retirement in January, set aside Patrick Beadle's conviction for drug trafficking and allowed him to plead guilty to simple possession.



Beautification Grant

Those commuting along Highland Colony Parkway will soon have a more scenic route thanks to a grant from America in Bloom and CN Railway.

The City of Ridgeland was awarded a From the Ground Up grant to plant trees in the median along Highland Colony Parkway, from Old Agency Road to County Line Road.


Makos High Point winner

Mississippi Makos Swim Club swimmer Jett Ngo (left) scored 32 points in the seventh/eight boys age group as the high point winner at the 2019 Eastern Section of the Southern Zone  Age Group Championships in Georgia. Brian Ware is the coach
