Work on the Ridgeland Costco finally appears to be moving forward, thanks to several weeks of dry weather.

“They’ve been going full-tilt boogie to get the gas station opened by January and the store opened by March 1,” said Ward One Alderman Ken Heard. “They’ve been going strong since it got dried out.”






Judge, sheriff issue statement in Madison County consent decree

On October 9, Judge Carlton Reeves entered an Order approving the Consent Decree in Brown v. Madison County, a lawsuit brought by the law firm Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Mississippi and the ACLU, which alleged racially motivated policing by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

A conversation with Suzannah Britt on Hospice Ministries

Hospice Ministries of Central Mississ-ippi celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Suzannah Britt, the group’s executive director, has worked in various roles with the nonprofit, and recently reflected on the group in an interview with the Sun. Britt is a graduate of Co-Lin Community College and the University of Southern Mississi-ppi.

New mixed-use development planned for Madison featuring businesses and housing

Work will soon be under way on a new mixed-use development in Madison, which is designed to have the feel of a historic downtown neighborhood.

The Village at Madison will be located off Main Street near the police department and will be home to the newest Half Shell Oyster House location.

Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Lloyd Fordice of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Louise Fordice, to Thomas Bruce Payne III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bruce Payne Jr. of Madison. Doctor of the day

Garret Grove,  St. Joseph Catholic School senior,  has been named Mississippi’s High School Journalist of the Year by the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association. Grove is a reporter, anchor and weathercaster for St. Joe’s award-winning, student-produced, weekly newscast Bruin News Now.

Sen. Walter Michel (left) recently visited with former Madison County Schools Superintendent Kimber L. Halliburton, one of 18 school leaders who visited the Capitol to be honored with a presentation of Senate Concurrent Resolution 540 saluting them for achieving an “A” accreditation rating for the 2017-18 school year.
