Northside Drive repaving to begin

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Monday, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba announced that repaving is expected to begin on Northside Drive between State Street and I-55/Frontage Road.  The $2.4 million project has been made possible through the 1% Sales Tax Commission and funding made available to the Mississippi Department of Transportation by the Federal Highway

Grace Lynnley Miller

Grace Lynnley Miller, a recent homeschool graduate, was awarded a President’s Gold Scholarship from Baylor University in Waco. She will be enrolled at Baylor in their Honors College majoring in classical studies. She also received one of the two  Christian Home Educators Connection (CHEC) Matthew 5:16 Scholarships awarded yearly.

Miss Fordice and Payne to exchange wedding vows February 23 in Vicksburg service

Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Lloyd Fordice of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Louise Fordice, to Thomas Bruce Payne III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bruce Payne Jr. of Madison. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Governor of Mississippi, the Hon. Daniel Kirkwood Fordice Jr.

Higher education

Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr. was a recent speaker at the Rotary Club of Jackson. Dr. Rankins was appointed to serve as Commissioner of Higher Education by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning.


Rett Stanley

Jackson Academy student, took first place in the district science fair and went on to win first place in the state science fair. He also earned Best of Fair honors in his age group for the second year in a row, and is the first person in the MAIS to accomplish that feat.



David Moulder

Jackson Academy senior, was recognized as a semifinalist in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. He is the son of Dr. Rebekah Moulder and David Moulder of Jackson. Moulder will continue in competition to be a finalist for Merit Scholarship awards that will be offered next spring.


Janice “Jan” Kay Warner Ross

Janice “Jan” Kay Warner Ross, 75, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Waller Funeral Home with Minister Les Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Geography bee winner
