The Road to Terezine

We each march to the sound of a different drummer; it may be an age thing, but for unknown reasons, I seem to be drawn more and more to the beat of the past. The rhythm goes on, but it’s slower. On a Danube River cruise my Jackson friends and I had disembarked from our ship, the Viking Jarl, and were now in Prague.




New Eagle

Andy Brown (center) was recognized for earning his Eagle Scout rank at Troop 8’s May Court of Honor at First Baptist Church of Jackson. His Eagle Project built benches for batting cages at North Jackson Youth Baseball. He is shown with his parents Jay and Mary Tison Brown.

Alice G. Staples, born in Memphis, TN, died peacefully at her home in Ridgeland, surrounded by family around 5:00 PM Monday, July 15, 2019.  She was preceded  in death by her husband Tony.

I don’t get weepy at much. My friend, Mary Straton Smith, knows that military homecoming videos can bring me to my knees and uses this to derail my day by tagging me in the tear-jerkiest of tear-jerkers that she comes across on social media—but I don’t cry at my kids’ performances or first or last days of school.



Champion

Before an audience of more than 16,000 Northsider Amy Forsyth preformed a duet with Carrie Underwood in Fiserv Forum. Amy, a Northside Sun account manager, had the opportunity to share the stage with the award winning country singer after she won The Champion rap contest.

Quiz bowl

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School’s Quiz Bowl team competed in the seventh annual Mustang Invitation Tournament at Murrah High School. They competed against 22 other teams from all around Mississippi and the surrounding states, placing first in the tournament for the fourth year in a row.

The Jackson Police Department (JPD) has stepped up parking enforcement along East Capitol Street, meaning vehicles parked in the street’s center loading zone for extended periods of time could be subject to a ticket.

The pests are not only a nuisance, but a painful reminder for Northsiders to douse themselves in bug spray, put on netting or long sleeves before going outside.
