Closing Doors: New charter school makes plans to open in former Trinity Presbyterian Church building

Members of Trinity Presbyterian Church will soon say farewell to their church, which has been in Jackson for 70 years.

RePublic Schools, which operates three nonprofit charter schools in Jackson and three in Nashville, has purchased the church’s facilities at 5301 Old Canton Road and plans to open a school there in August 2022.

St. Richard Catholic School recently celebrated Finn Friday in memory of Finn Blaylock. Finn, a frog-loving, grilled cheese and pickle-eating, nature-appreciating boy would have been nine years old in November. Although Finn lost his battle with cancer in August of 2019, the school continues to celebrate and remember him.

Approximately 10,000 Northside homes are without power Saturday morning after the eye hurricane Delta passed directly over the city of Jackson.

 Entergy Mississippi did not provide any estimates of when power would be restored but assured customers on their website that multiple crews were dispatched and repairing the power lines.

Good news! Mississippi COVID-19 cases (seven-day average) are down 30 percent from the July 26 peak. Deaths are down 17 percent from the August 5 peak.

These numbers indicate a slight silver lining around the COVID dark cloud. The whole state is nervously waiting to see what happens when school starts back. It’s a scary time.
