William Sherman Sampson Jr.

William Sherman Sampson Jr., 75, died unexpectedly Saturday July 13, 2019 at his home near Learned, MS. Bill was the first of 5 children in is family and was born at Fort Ft McClellan in Alabama July 2, 1944. Bill grew up in Jackson, MS and attended the University of Mississippi. He was an avid fan of Ole Miss football his entire life.

Renaissance construction

Construction is on track for the second and third phases of Renaissance, complete with a show fountain and Malco theater.

Phase two of Renaissance is projected to be complete sometime this summer or early fall.

The Costco portion of phase three and four should be complete by next summer.



Lack of action results in loss of 34,000 library books

Inaction by library officials has resulted in the loss of approximately 34,000 books at the now defunct Charles Tisdale Library. The books were destroyed by black mold.

Meanwhile, any hopes of cleaning the collection were dashed recently, when an insurance claim filed to cover the books’ restoration costs was denied.



Jackson Academy RAIDERS

In his third season at the helm of Jackson Academy, head coach Larry Weems has returned the Raiders to their winning ways.

Last year, Weems posted a 9-3 record and took the Raiders to the second round of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) AAAA playoffs.

Shearer overcomes back injury to continue love of dance at Indiana University

What at one point seemed impossible for a young ballerina has now become a reality.

After suffering a back injury, Mary Kate Shearer is attending Indiana University Bloomington and is now part of the ballet program at the Jacobs School of Music.

Tiny state agency plans on issuing $895 million bond

When a Tiny backwater state agency published a public notice in the newspaper that it planned on issuing up to $895 million in state debt, it raised some eyebrows.

The Municipal Gas Authority of Mississippi (MGAM) only has a half-dozen or so employees, but that isn’t stopping the 30-year-old agency from some whopping plans.
