The Sanderson Farms Championship is under way, and even for the casual golf fan, the tournament has a lot to offer.

The tournament runs through September 22 at the Country Club of Jackson and features some of the biggest names in professional golf.

Loss

Another loss.  Another time of grief. My generation experiences death of friends and loved ones with each passing day; and, with every one, we are left with voids that cannot be filled. That`s where we are in the cycle of life. We can see the end, and we are amazed that it is close by.

ALUMNI BOARD

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School’s Alumni Board of Directors represents the school’s alumni network. The group promotes alumni engagement in the life of St. Andrew’s and encourages support and participation from alumni in Mississippi and beyond. Members of the 2018-19 St.


Desoto key to runoff

The runoff for the Republican nomination governor was already bound to be interesting: Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, a leader of the legislative branch, vs. Bill Waller Jr., the former leader of the state’s judicial branch.



Confederate heroes

The W. D. Holder Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Jefferson Davis Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans held a joint Confederate Heroes Luncheon recently at a local restaurant.  Guest speaker was the Rev. Glenn Shows, who presented a program on “Battle of Cotton Bales at Red Lick, MS on July 4, 1864”.

Gerard Gibert on Mississippi Lottery

Gerard Gibert, a resident of Ridgeland, was recently named to the Mississippi lottery board of directors. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in economics from the University of Mississippi. He is the CEO of Venture Technology. Gibert recently spoke with Sun reporter Nikki Rowell about the Mississippi lottery.

JA student killed in car crash, one day before she was to graduate

A vigil will be held tonight for the Jackson Academy (JA) student killed in a car crash today.

Frances Anne Fortner was driving along Ridgewood Road around 1:30 p.m., when she hit a manhole cover and her car flipped, according to Precinct Four Cmdr. Keith Freeman.

The vigil will be at 7 p.m., on the school's campus.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.
