Book fiasco

After allowing the books at the Charles Tisdale Library to rot, it now appears that the Jackson-Hinds Library System will let the city of Jackson foot the bill for disposing of them.

Last month, the Jackson-Hinds board of trustees voted to abandon its interests in the E. Northside Drive facility, effective September 30.

The Sanderson Farms Championship is under way, and even for the casual golf fan, the tournament has a lot to offer.

The tournament runs through September 22 at the Country Club of Jackson and features some of the biggest names in professional golf.


Dog Days of Summer

“You’re a good girl. Now behave yourself.” 

I tighten the leash, stop a moment to catch my breath, bend over and pet the dog.  “We should be able to finish our walk, then I have some things to take care of before I, ‘make it to the church on time,’” I hum.

Gerard Gibert on Mississippi Lottery

Gerard Gibert, a resident of Ridgeland, was recently named to the Mississippi lottery board of directors. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in economics from the University of Mississippi. He is the CEO of Venture Technology. Gibert recently spoke with Sun reporter Nikki Rowell about the Mississippi lottery.

Awards

At Madison Ridgeland Academy, student Meg Gordon was named the 2018 recipient of the Smith-Harris Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is given annually in memory of Periann Smith and Joellen Harris. The recipient is selected based on how they exemplify the lives of Periann and Joellen both personally and as MRA students.


Charity and the tax code

Since, Jackson’s population has dropped by nearly four percent, in large part because of quality of life issues.

This year, state lawmakers could help stem that flight by giving residents in the capital city a tool that would help them address those issues head on.




Christmas wishes
