MUW luncheon

The Jackson Metro Chapter of the Mississippi University for Women (MUW) Alumni Association will hold its annual Welty Symposium Preview Luncheon Thursday, October 3, at 11:30 a.m. at Anjou restaurant. MUW Professor Dr. Kendall Dunkelberg will provide a preview of the university’s Welty Symposium October 10-12.

Book fiasco

After allowing the books at the Charles Tisdale Library to rot, it now appears that the Jackson-Hinds Library System will let the city of Jackson foot the bill for disposing of them.

Last month, the Jackson-Hinds board of trustees voted to abandon its interests in the E. Northside Drive facility, effective September 30.

The Sanderson Farms Championship is under way, and even for the casual golf fan, the tournament has a lot to offer.

The tournament runs through September 22 at the Country Club of Jackson and features some of the biggest names in professional golf.

Gerard Gibert on Mississippi Lottery

Gerard Gibert, a resident of Ridgeland, was recently named to the Mississippi lottery board of directors. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in economics from the University of Mississippi. He is the CEO of Venture Technology. Gibert recently spoke with Sun reporter Nikki Rowell about the Mississippi lottery.

Watters honored for contributions

Stan Buckley on But God Ministries

Stan Buckley is founder and director of But God Ministries in Ridgeland. The Madison resident started the group in 2011, around the time he stepped down as pastor of First Baptist Church of Jackson. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and received his Juris Doctorate from the Mississippi College School of Law.
