A conversation with Suzannah Britt on Hospice Ministries

Hospice Ministries of Central Mississ-ippi celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Suzannah Britt, the group’s executive director, has worked in various roles with the nonprofit, and recently reflected on the group in an interview with the Sun. Britt is a graduate of Co-Lin Community College and the University of Southern Mississi-ppi.

Lane Spell Rosson

Lane Spell Rosson, 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at home in Ridgeland, MS, surrounded by friends and family including her son, Bert Rosson Jr., her sister, Suzanne Case of McComb and niece Rebecca Case Lawler of New Orleans.

Dr. Waymond Lee Rone

Waymond Lee Rone died August 19, 2019 in Jackson, Mississippi. Just two weeks earlier he had been enjoying the salt air and sea breezes in his garden at Perdido Key, Florida. Many called him Dr. Rone, Wayne, and Daddy, but his grandchildren called him Poppy.

Richard Roberson minces no words when he hears people argue that there’s no reason to expand Medicaid to the working poor since they can already get free medical care at hospital emergency rooms if they can’t afford to pay for it.

Reservoir officials declare state of emergency to help stop spread of Salvinia

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District (PRVWSD) board has issued a state of emergency due to the presence of the invasive aquatic plant giant Salvinia, which is spreading in Pelahatchie Bay. This is the second time the plant has been found in the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

Magical moments with a first doe

I can’t recall the exact date, but somewhere around 20 plus years ago the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks created several special youth seasons for those younger than 16 years of age. Don’t hold me to it, but I believe a two day waterfowl season was the first in a series for the kids.

Zoo Audit Planned

Jackson is another step closer to bringing on a new zoo manager, but first it wants to get a handle on the park’s finances.

Last week, the city council approved bringing on an accounting firm to conduct a forensic audit of the Jackson Zoological Park’s finances.
