TRIPLE CROWN WINNERS

The 12U Major team, Mississippi Angels, won the 2019 Triple Crown Slumpbuster Series in Omaha. There were 291 teams in the tourney and 65 in their division. They went 8-0 and played California, Illinois, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Arkansas and Nebraska teams.  They also finished the 12U Major Team in the State of Mississippi.


Field day

First Presbyterian Day School students celebrated the end of the school year at Field Day, a long-standing tradition of the school.



Inequity in pay inexcusable

So, just when you thought the 11.7 scholarships college baseball teams are forced to share constitutes the worst travesty in sports, you learn you were wrong.

As awful and inexcusable as the college baseball scholarship limit is, the inequity in pay in World Cup Soccer – men vs. women – is far, far worse.

Mississippi Makos Swim Club swimmer Michael Robinson (right) received the following medals at the 2019 Eastern Section of the Southern Zone  Age Group Championships in Georgia:  first in  50-yard freestyle,100-yard freestyle; second 1000-yard freestyle; third in 500 and 200 yard freestyle. Gifted with a green thumb, she loves to spend free time working in her garden. Over the years, she has kept a collection of cookbooks and family recipes. She is a cat person and has had her cat, Annie, for 17 years. She calls herself a very hands-on grandmother. Her grandchildren have gone with her to showings and closings.

Stickfire

Reunion Golf and Country Club hosted its annual Stickfire Golf Tournament recently with a record 108 players competing. The tournament is played every year in the name of the late Stan Hall, who was a member at Reunion when he suddenly passed away at his home January 16, 2016.

JA student killed in car crash, one day before she was to graduate

A vigil will be held tonight for the Jackson Academy (JA) student killed in a car crash today.

Frances Anne Fortner was driving along Ridgewood Road around 1:30 p.m., when she hit a manhole cover and her car flipped, according to Precinct Four Cmdr. Keith Freeman.

The vigil will be at 7 p.m., on the school's campus.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.
