Jackson's crime stats are looking very bad this year, perhaps related to the Covid crisis.
Overall, crime is up 50 percent this year over last, based on city statistics.
One bright star, armed robbery of businesses is down 41 percent, presumbably because of the lock down.
Northside Jackson councilman Ashby Foote said, "Clearly crime continues to ravage the city of Jackson. No doubt the Covid19 pandemic and the resulting lock downs of schools and businesses have played a role in what now has to be considered a crime epidemic. It is imperative that City government exhaust all possible resources to make Jackson safe. Police presence in neighborhoods should be an important part of the solution."
