Billy Mounger was larger than life and his passing will be felt throughout the Northside. Fortunately, he leaves behind an extended family who will continue to be part of the social fabric of the Northside and contribute to the cohesion of our community.
Mr. Mounger was an ultimate Northsider. By that we mean he was involved and active in the community. He was a mover and a shaker. His friends and acquaintances number in the thousands. He was intent on improving his community and making a difference. Indeed, he did with his wonderful and devoted wife Jan by his side as they participated in innumerable community events. He leaves a legacy of goodwill and contribution.
It’s hard to imagine that a West Point grad and a bomber pilot who later succeeded in the oil patch would go on to be the driving force of Jackson’s renowned International Ballet Competition. But that was Billy. Nobody defined him. He defined himself. As Frank Sinatra once crooned, “I did it my way.” Nobody fulfilled the meaning of that song more than Mr. Mounger. He will be greatly missed, but the Northside is blessed to have had him for so long.
