Volunteers from St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and Ascension Lutheran Church are working to improve reading skills at McLeod Elementary. Through ARISE2Read, church members are focusing on strengthening second-graders’ reading so they are more likely to enter the third grade reading on grade level. Tutoring on sight reading and comprehension is helping students progress. Volunteers include (from left) Jean Schott, Dorothy Thompson, Betty Smithson, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church; Joanne Olson, Ascension Lutheran; and Lollie Everett, St. Philip’s.
