Earlier this year the Madison Lions Club held an eye screening at the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Elementary School. Eli Mason, at the time a four-year-old MRA student, was screened, resulting in a referral where an examination by an eye specialist determined he had a cataract almost the size of his pupil. If left untreated, Eli would be blind in his right eye. Pictured with Eli (wearing a patch over his right eye as recommended before considering surgery) is Kristen Mason, Eli’s mother and a teacher at MRA. The Madison Lions Club purchased the eye screening machine to locate students in need of professional examinations where eye problems can be caught quickly.
