Julianne Uy Ranis and Landen Marshall Tharp were united in marriage at the Lake House on the deck overlooking the Ross Barnett Reservoir March 15 at 5 p.m.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Sajol Ranis of Vicksburg. She is the granddaughter of Joaquina Uy Li of Bohol, Philippines, and the late Beng Yao Li of Manila, Philippines, and Cecilia Sajol Ranis and the late Celso Jamisola Ranis of Bohol, Philippines.
The bridegroom is the son of Drs. Robert and Pamela Tharp of Madison. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John Dalie Hatchett of Hominy, Okla. and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marshall Tharp of Yukon, Okla.
The ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Steve Casteel. “All I Know About Love” by Neil Gaiman was read by Dr. Judy Norwood. Nuptial music was presented by Jeanne Evans, pianist, and Jiwon Lee, violinist.
In Filipino tradition, a ceremonial veil was draped around the couple by Mr. and Mrs. Giovanni Baldizon which signifies they are dressed for the world as one and represents good health and protection. The Yugal, or infinity shaped cord, was placed over the couple’s shoulders by Mr. and Mrs. Ruleo Bantugan. This silk cord symbolizes everlasting fidelity and signifies that they walk in the world as equals.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a designer ballgown with lace embellishments over illusion netting and a V-neck bodice paired with a soft silk skirt that fell from her natural waist. Satin covered buttons cascaded down the back of the cathedral-length train. It was finished with a handmade jeweled headband with a single-tier, fingertip veil with a silver edge and frosted beads. The bride carried a jewel-toned, handtied bouquet featuring oriental lillies, ranunculus, thistles and roses.
Matron of honor was Savannah Barnes of Hernando. Bridesmaids were Cambria Abdeen of Jackson; Alexandria Baldizon of Vicksburg; Candice Ballard of Oxford; Jana Ibale of Clinton; Anna Solomon of Brandon; Dr. Delta Stout of Gluckstadt, sister-in-law of the bridegroom; and Dr. Alyssa Tharp of Jackson, sister of the bridegroom. They wore a variety of berry colored chiffon designer gowns and carried bouquets complimenting the bride’s.
Attendants were Faye Michelle Valerio of Vicksburg and Charmaine Beluso of Clinton.
The bridegroom’s brother, Dr. Jacob Stout of Gluckstadt, was best man. Groomsmen included Maisen Daffron of Austin; Michael Hankins of Flowood; Andre Ranis, of Vicksburg, brother of the bride; and Logan Tharp of Madison, brother of the bridegroom. Usher were William Robbins of Vicksburg and Basilio Caballero of Jackson.
The bridegroom’s cousin, Evelyn Reel of McAlester, Okla. was flower girl.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a reception hosted by the bride’s parents and dancing by Scott Steele Entertainment provided music. As the celebration concluded, guests gathered on the deck and released white floating lanterns over the water.
The couple’s planned wedding trip to Maui, Hawaii was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are making their home in Brandon where the bride is associated with Hollywood Feed in Madison and the bridegroom is a radiology resident at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
