On Monday, the city of Jackson announced that all parks and city facilities are closed to the public, due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Meanwhile, numerous seasonal events, including the annual Easter Egg Hunt, originally slated for April 11, have been postponed.
Other events postponed include the April 25 three-on-three Peace in the Street basketball tournament, the May 16 Celebrating our Youth program, the May 22 Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament and the May 23 All White Party.
Signs and chains have been posted at parks, notifying the public they are closed. The city warns that tampering with or destroying signs is illegal.
At Parham Bridges, workout equipment near the walking trail had been taped off, as had the parking lot along Old Canton Road.
The release did not say when parks would be reopen or when events would be rescheduled.
