The deceased driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal traffic crash this morning on Grandview Boulevard has been
identified as Shaunyna K. Johnson, age 23, of Jackson. The Madison Police Department sends its condolences to Ms. Johnson’s
family and friends, according to a statement from the department.
On Thursday, July 30, the Madison Police Department issued the following statement:
"On July 30, 2020, at approximately 4:29 AM, the Madison Police Department was notified of a traffic crash on Grandview Boulevard near the Sam’s Club store. Upon the arrival of Madison police and fire personnel they found that the driver of a single vehicle involved in the crash had apparently succumbed to injuries.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle, described as a 2008 Nissan Altima, was traveling southbound on Grandview Boulevard when it left the right side of the roadway just north of the main entrance to the Sam’s Club store. The vehicle then struck a power junction box for the traffic signal on the southwest side of the intersection at Grandview Boulevard at the Sam’s Club entrance causing the vehicle to overturn.
No other persons or vehicles were involved in the traffic crash. The identity of the deceased driver is being withheld pending notification of their next-of-kin. The accident remains under investigation by accident reconstruction investigators with the Madison Police Department.
The traffic signal at Grandview Boulevard at the Sam’s Club entrance is out of service pending repair. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area."
