Officers wounded during Madison County arrest

Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker has released the following statement regarding a shooting that has resulted in injuries for both the suspect and the responding deputies:

“This morning, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a hostage/kidnap situation. After Deputies made contact with the suspect, a chase ensued on Highway 16.

Deputies, in an effort to keep the public safe, deployed stops sticks. The suspect’s vehicle left the roadway and came to a complete rest in a ditch at the intersection of Avondale Road and Highway 16. Upon exiting the vehicle, the suspect opened fire on the Deputies. Deputies sustained injuries due to gunfire and are in the hospital.

Deputies returned fire, and the suspect is now in custody.

As protocol dictates, when officers are involved in a shooting, this case is being turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Since this is an ongoing investigation; we are not able to make any further comment.

The findings of MBI’s investigation will be turned over to the District Attorney’s office.

At this time, we are not releasing the names of those shot.

Please keep the families of those shot today in your thoughts and prayers.”
