Nadie Imogene Scott Graves passed away peacefully and entered the pearly gates of heaven on November 29, 2020.  Nadie was born in Poagville, Tate County, Mississippi, on April 11, 1927.  During her childhood, the Scott family lived in several sharecropping communities in Tate County before moving to Desoto County.  Nadie attended Hernando High School where she played basketball prior to graduating in 1946.  Following graduation, she lived with her family in the Love community before living with her sister Evelyn Coleman and husband Powell Coleman who lived near Canton.

Nadie worked at Woolworth’s in Canton and later at an ice cream parlor.  In Canton, she met Olgia Graves, who worked at a local grocery store.  Olgia became a regular patron of the ice cream parlor on days that Nadie worked.  After their courtship, they were married at the Center Terrace Baptist Church in Canton on August 20, 1948.

Nadie worked in numerous jobs throughout the years, including Sterling’s on the square in Canton, McCory’s in downtown Jackson, McRae’s on Meadowbrook Road in Jackson, School Pictures, Inc. and Hinds County Chancery Court.  She was also a realtor with O.L. Graves Realty and enjoyed flipping houses in the Broadmoor area.

Nadie enjoyed bowling and won several awards between 1963 and 1980.  She enjoyed traveling on church-sponsored trips, and particularly enjoyed the Windsor Ruins, World War II Museum, and Mississippi Museum of Art.  In later years, Nadie enjoyed ceramics classes at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where she is a charter member.

Nadie was preceded in death by her husband, Olgia L. Graves, her parents Hall and Myrtie Scott, and siblings Virgie Gordon, Lou Ellis Jackson, Evelyn Coleman, Maxine Johnson, Sidney Scott, J.D. Scott, Odell Scott and Neville Scott.  She is survived by sister Betty Hutchinson (Jimmie) of Lascassas, TN, daughters Marcia Graves and Paula Graves Ardelean of Ridgeland, MS, and grandchildren Michael and Grace Ardelean of Ridgeland. Nadie is also survived by nieces and nephews Sara Kennedy, Susan Moens, Charles Coleman, William (Bill) Coleman, Ray Coleman; Jean Blanton; Valdis Vitols, Dzidra Cecil, Johnnie Vitols, Ron Scott, Debbie Cleveland; Nelda Ballard, Lynn Wilson, Lisa Scott; James Hutchinson, Melinda Brunner; Gerry Graves, Renee Greene; Tommy Graves, Cammie Swales and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church/Keenagers in Madison, MS or to the Wingard Home at wingardhome.org.

The family is forever grateful to Murnette Garrett, Cindy Giddens and Rose Mary Bennett who provided loving care to Mrs. Graves during her final years.
